FAQ

What would you like to know?

What types of websites and applications do you build?

We build custom WordPress websites, eCommerce platforms, web applications, client portals, business tools and API-driven systems. Depending on the requirements, we work with WordPress, WooCommerce, Laravel, Next.js, React and other technologies.

Do you only build new websites?

No. We also work with existing websites and applications. We can improve an existing platform, rebuild specific parts, migrate to a new platform or provide ongoing technical support without replacing everything.

When should I consider custom development instead of an off-the-shelf solution?

Custom development can make sense when existing software cannot support your workflows, integrations or business requirements without significant workarounds. We assess the requirements first and will recommend an existing platform where it is sufficient.

Can you integrate our website with other business systems?

Yes. We build integrations with CRM, ERP, accounting, payment, inventory and other third-party systems. We can also work with existing APIs and legacy systems where the required access and documentation are available.

When does a website need a full rebuild?

A rebuild can be appropriate when the existing architecture is difficult to maintain, the platform has become restrictive, performance problems are difficult to resolve or the underlying technology no longer supports the business requirements. We assess the existing platform before recommending a rebuild.

Can you migrate our website without losing content or functionality?

We plan migrations around the data, functionality and integrations that need to be retained. We use staging environments, migration checks and validation to identify problems before the new platform becomes the live system.

Will a website migration affect our SEO?

It can. Changes to URLs, content, internal linking, canonical tags and other technical elements can affect organic search performance. We include URL mapping, redirects and relevant technical SEO checks as part of SEO-focused migrations.

Can you migrate a WooCommerce store?

Yes. We can work with product data, customer records, orders, categories, attributes, variations and other WooCommerce data, depending on the existing and destination platforms.

Can you modernise an old application without rebuilding everything?

Often, yes. We can assess the existing codebase, dependencies, database and integrations to identify what can be retained, modernised or replaced. Incremental modernisation can be considered where a complete rebuild is unnecessary or impractical.

Why is my website slow?

There can be many causes, including frontend code, large images, JavaScript, database queries, plugins, APIs, server configuration, hosting or third-party services. We measure the website first and investigate the underlying bottlenecks rather than applying the same optimisation techniques to every site.

How do you measure website performance?

Depending on the project, we use tools such as Lighthouse, browser performance tools, Core Web Vitals and server-side analysis. We can also consider real user data where it is available and relevant.

Can you improve Core Web Vitals?

Yes. We can investigate the technical factors affecting metrics such as Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift, then address the underlying causes where they are within the scope of the project.

Can you fix technical SEO problems?

Yes. We can investigate crawlability, indexing, canonical tags, redirects, XML sitemaps, internal linking, structured data and URL architecture, then make the relevant technical changes.

Can you improve website accessibility?

Yes. We can review websites against relevant WCAG requirements and address issues involving keyboard navigation, semantic HTML, forms, focus states, colour contrast, headings and interactive components.

Can you fix tracking and analytics problems?

Yes. We can review GA4 implementations, events and e-commerce tracking to identify missing, duplicated or incorrectly configured measurements. We can also implement business-specific events where required.

Do you provide ongoing website maintenance?

Yes. Ongoing support can include software updates, security patches, dependency reviews, backups, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance improvements and further development, depending on the support arrangement.

Can you support a website you didn't build?

Yes. We can assess an existing codebase, hosting environment, integrations and technical setup before taking on ongoing development or support work.

What happens when something breaks?

We investigate the issue to identify its underlying cause, then develop and test an appropriate fix before deployment where the environment allows. Response times and escalation arrangements depend on the agreed support package.

Can you provide ongoing performance monitoring?

Yes. We can monitor areas such as Core Web Vitals, server response times and database performance to identify gradual changes and investigate emerging bottlenecks.

Do you provide emergency support?

Support availability depends on the agreed service arrangement. If you require specific response times or out-of-hours support, these requirements can be discussed as part of the support agreement.

How much does a website or application cost?

The cost depends on the platform, functionality, integrations, content, technical requirements and complexity of the project. We review the requirements before providing a scope and quotation rather than applying a standard price to every project.

How long does a project take?

Timelines vary considerably depending on the scope and technical complexity. A straightforward website rebuild may take considerably less time than a custom application, complex migration or platform involving multiple integrations. We provide a project timeline once the requirements have been defined.

Do you work with businesses outside Birmingham?

Yes. TekCreative works with businesses across the UK and Europe. Most communication and development can be handled remotely, with projects managed through digital collaboration and communication tools.

What technologies do you work with?

Our work includes WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP, Laravel, React, Next.js, headless CMS platforms, APIs and custom business systems. We choose the technology based on the requirements of the project rather than using the same stack for every business.

Can you work with our existing development team or agency?

Yes. We can provide technical advice, development support, code reviews, integrations, troubleshooting or additional development capacity where required.

What happens after I contact you?

We’ll review the information you’ve provided and assess the technical requirements. If the project is a good fit, we’ll discuss the scope, technical approach and next steps. We aim to give you a useful technical response rather than simply arranging a sales call.
